Orange Leaf Socks

One repeat of the leaf pattern
Edited Jan 21, 2014:
I added a photo showing the leaf pattern, but the overall sock is not the same pattern as the orange sock.

I made these socks with a cheap acrylic yarn I got at a department store in Germany. I found the leaf pattern in a shawl book I have. I usually incorporate other patterns stitches for other projects into my socks. So here is my pattern for this sock. Let me know what you think.

Materials:
Fingering/sock yarn
Size 3 DP needles

Cast on 64 stitches: 32 on needle one, 16 on needle 2 and 3:

Pattern Stitch (over 31 stitches):
Note: the 32nd stitch is purled during the leg ribbing and knitted on the foot
Row 1: *K3, k2tog,yo,k1,yo,ssk,k2* repeat twice ending with k3
Row 2 and all even rows: knit
Row 3: *K2, k2tog,yo,k3,yo,ssk,k1* repeat twice ending with k2
Row 5: *K1,k2tog,yo,k5,yo,ssk * repeat twice ending with k1
Row 7,9, and 11: *K1,ssk,k2,yo,k1,yo,k2,k2tog* repeat twice ending with k1
Row 13: *K1,yo,ssk,k5,k2tog,yo* repeat twice ending with k1
Row 15: *K2,yo,ssk,k3,k2tog,yo,k1* repeat twice ending with k2
Row 17: *K3,yo,ssk,k1,k2tog,yo,k2* repeat twice ending with k3
Row 19,21, and 23: *k1,yo,k2,k2tog,k1,ssk,k2,yo* repeat twice ending with k1

Leg/ cuff:
Start pattern stitch on first needle for the first 31 stitches, the last stitch is purled during cuff.
One needle 2 and 3 do *k1,p1* rib pattern

Continue 23 row pattern for desired cuff length. For my sock I repeated the pattern twice.
When you are ready to work the heel, turn after finishing on needle 3:

To form the short row heel:
working on needles two and three
slip 1, P30, turn
slip 1, K29, turn
slip 1, P28, turn
Continue in this manner until you reach slip 1, K15, turn

slip 1, Purl to stitch before a gap, P2tog,pick up a stitch before the next stitch (this stitch is on the right needle), turn
slip 1, Knit to stitch before a gap, K2tog,pick up a stitch before the next stitch (this stitch is on the right needle), turn

Continue in this manner until all the stitches are work.

To continue with the foot, work the pattern stitch on needle one, this time knit the 32nd stitch and knit on needles two and three. Work until about 1 1/2 inches before desired foot length

To make the toe:
first row:
starting with needle 3, k until you get to the last three stitches, k2tog and k the last stitch.

On needle one k first stitch, slip the next stitch, k, and pass the slipped stitch over the k stitch. k until the last three stitches, then k2tog, k.

On need two k first stitch, slip the next stitch, k, and pass the slipped stitch over the k stitch and k til end

Second row:
Knit on all three needles

repeat row one and two until half (32) stitches remain. K stitches on needle three onto needle two so that the stitches are even over the two needles.

Close with Kitchener's stitch.

  1. These are lovey socks espcially the orange color but it looks like the top is stretchy. I would love to see a toe up sock that is bright and fun and up to the calf. I am a new sock knitter and you are so experienced with making patterns. You go girl!!

  2. Can you post a picture of the top of the sock that shows the pattern? You can't really tell from that bottom angle what the leaf pattern looks like. Thanks.
