Reversible Cable Pattern

After having several people asking for a pattern after seeing a couple of reversible cabled scarves I did, I thought I would finally share a pattern. Pictured I made a dish cloth, but repeat the four row pattern to make a scarf. If you want to incorporate this pattern in other projects, then use a stitch count that is dividable by 6 plus 2 more for turning.

So here is the pattern:
With worsted weight yarn and a g hook, chain 50.
Dc in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain across. ch 2, turn (48 dc)

Row 1: Dc in the next 3 dc *skip 3 dc, tr in the next 3 dc, working behind the 3 tr just made, tr in each of the 3 skipped dc. skip 3 dc, tr in the next 3 dc, working in front of the 3 tr just made, tr in each of the skipped dc.* repeat twice, ending with skip 3 dc, tr in the next 3 dc, working behind the 3 tr just made, tr in each of the 3 skipped dc. Dc in the last 3 dc, ch 2, turn

Row 2: Dc in each stitch across, ch 2, turn

Row 3: Dc in the next 3 dc *skip 3 dc, tr in the next 3 dc, working in front of the 3 tr just made, tr in each of the 3 skipped dc. skip 3 dc, tr in the next 3 dc, working behind the 3 tr just made, tr in each of the skipped dc.* repeat twice, ending with skip 3 dc, tr in the next 3 dc, working in front of the 3 tr just made, tr in each of the 3 skipped dc. Dc in the last 3 dc, ch 2, turn

Row 4: Repeat row 2. Repeat the four rows until you have desired length. Ending on either row 2 or 4.

I have a new video out for this:

  2. Does tr mean to do a triple crochet?

  5. I'm working on this scarf and so far, so good. I was wondering if there was supposed to be some kind of border added to it when the length has been reached.

  6. Is this done with front post and back posts?

  7. Julie thank you so much. This pattern is fabulous. I have been crocheting all of my life since age 10. I am now 65 and these instructions were like sitting in a class. I am so excited. Hopefully this year I will be able to visit the reservation and share with some family and friends.

  8. Thank you so very much. Been looking for a cable that would look good from either side.

  9. Love it! Easy to follow, and fun to stitch! I started with a foundation double crochet (so it would be "stretchier"). Can't wait to see my completed project. I think doing a finishing row all the way around (single crochet) sounds like a good idea, with maybe fringe on the ends.
