Crochet Ribbed Baby Hat

I wanted to do another baby hat pattern since my last one is my most popular one.

Materials:
lightweight yarn
Size H hook

FPDC = Front post dc
BPDC = Back post dc

ch 4, join to form a loop
Round 1: chain 3, 11 dc in ring, join at the top of chain 3
Round 2: chain 3, FPDC around ch 3 from the first round. *dc in next dc, FPDC around the same dc* repeat around, join with beginning chain 3
Round 3: chain 3, *FPDC in next dc, dc in same dc, FPDC in next dc, dc in next dc, FPDC around same dc, BPDC in next dc* repeat around, you are going to end with doing a dc and an FPDC in the last dc. join with beginning chain 3
Round 4: chain 3, FPDC around next dc *BPDC around next dc, FPDC around next dc* repeat around, join with beginning chain 3
Repeat round 4 until you have the desired length. about 14 rounds

NOTE: Here is an option to make the hat bigger:
After round 3:
Round 4: chain 3, FPDC around next dc, BPDC around next dc, FPDC around next dc, [dc in next dc, FPDC around same dc] 2 times. *[BPDC around next dc, FPDC around next dc] 2 times, [dc in next dc, FPDC around same dc] 2 times. *
Round 5: chain 3, FPDC around next dc *BPDC around next dc, FPDC around next dc* repeat around, join with beginning chain 3

Here is a video tutorial on how to make the hat:

  4. very nice. I learned how to crochet as a little girl, but have just recently started a couple of crochet projects (mainly because they will go sooooo much faster than knitting them)

  5. Adorable hat, but I must be doing something wrong. Every time I attempt it it comes out the size to fit maybe a plum! LOL! What am I doing wrong. I love the looks of it and want to make some baby hats for a friend.

  6. I initially did this hat in a worsted weight baby yarn, it did turn out thick, but still cute. you may need to go up in hook size and/or thicker yarn to get the size you need.
