Textured Dish Cloth Pattern

Now there is a video!

I like the texture of this dishcloth, I have even made a blanket using this pattern. So here it is:

Worsted Weight yarn
Size h hook

ch 3

Row 1: sc in secon chain from hook, sc in the last chain, ch 1 turn.
Row 2: sc in front loop and back of the two scs from row 1, chain 1, turn
Row 3: sc in front and back of first sc, sc in the front loop of the next sc, sc in the back loop of next sc, sc in the front and back loop of the last sc. ch1, turn
Row 4:  sc in front and back of first sc, *sc in the front loop of the next sc, sc in the back loop of next sc,* repeat until you reach the last sc, then sc in the front and back loop of the last sc. ch1, turn

Repeat row 4 until it is desired size, about 40 sc total.

decreasing:

Row 1: sc 2tog in the front loops of the next 2 sc, *sc in the back loop of the next sc, sc in the front loop of next sc,* repeat until you reach the last  2 sc,  sc 2tog in back loops of the last 2 sc.

Repeat to row 1 until you reach 4 sc, sc 2tog in the front loops of the next 2 sc, sc 2tog in back loops of the last 2 sc. finish off.

  2. I've noticed that dishcloths seem to be a favourite thing to crochet in the USA, although I don't see many patterns in the UK but, seeing this pattern, and the lovely texture you've created, I'm tempted to use it to make my very first dishcloth :)

    1. For some reason I am not understanding how when in row two you have two sc but then in row three you need to have four sc to complete row three. Can you help me

    2. Are you doing the increases and the beginning and the end of the rows?

    3. I am following what the pattern is saying to do. I start and end with a sc into both front and back loops. By the time I get to the forty sc before starting the decreasing my dishcloth is too triangular

    4. It might not look like a perfect square when done, it does slightly look like a diamond, but it should not be too drastic.

  15. When making dishcloths, cotton yarn should be used. Other yarns will not dry well when wiping the countertops, etc.

  16. I love the dishcloth pattern - easy and finished in no time. Can you tell me how much worsted weight it takes to make a throw or afghan?

    1. If using something like Red Heart Super Saver, I would get at least 3 skeins.

  17. I'm getting lost at the beginning. How do you go from having 2 sc in row 2 to 4 in row 3? I've tried several times and I really would like to make this :( please help!

    1. My wording may be off, you are increasing in the 2 sc in row two by doing a sc in the front and back loop of each sc.

  21. I love this pattern. This is the first corner-to-corner anything that turned out square. And, it was so easy and quick. Thank you!

  22. When decreasing should there be a chain one turn at the end of each row?

    1. I usually start rows with a chain if the first stitch is a sc or a single crochet decrease in this case.
