In my previous post, I had done a French Fry Scarf. This time around I did another scarf using Caron Cakes and a size I hook.
I could not remember if I used a J or K hook. The height of each section is 6 inches. Looking at the yellow scarf, a section consists of a bright yellow and pale yellow part, or 16 rows. 8 going I one direction and the other eight going in the other direction. If you make the scarf using the Caron Cakes, there is just enough to make 10 to 10 1/2 sections. I ended up with 10 1/2 sections in the Caron Scarf.
So here is my pattern
For the materials use worst weight yarn and J hook, but you can vary these on however you like, to include using two or more contrasting colors.
Chain 33
Foundation row: 2 sc in second chain from hook (increase), [ch 1, insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, skip the next chain, insert hook in the next chain, yo and draw through all 3 loops.] repeat brackets until the last 3 stitches. Skip the next stitch, sc 2 tog over the last 2 stitches (decrease) ch 1, turn.
***Row 2: sc in first sc, insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops. [ch1 insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, skip the next stitch, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops.] repeat until to the last stitch, sc in last sc. ch 1, turn.
Row 3: 2 sc in first sc (increase), ch 1, insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops. [ch1 insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, skip the next stitch, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops.] repeat brackets until the last 3 stitches. Skip the next stitch, sc 2 tog over the last 2 stitches (decrease) ch 1, and turn.
Row 4: sc in first sc, insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops. [ch1 insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, skip the next stitch, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops.] repeat until to the last stitch, sc in last sc. ch 1, turn.
Repeat rows 3 and 4 two more times for 8 rows. Then moving in the other direction.
Row 1: sc 2 tog over the first in first 2 sc (decrease), insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, skip the next stitch, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops. [ch1 insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, skip the next stitch, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops.] repeat brackets until the last stitch. ch 1, 2 sc in last sc (increase). ch 1, turn.
Row 2: sc in first sc, insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops. [ch1 insert hook in the last stitch used, yo to draw up a loop, skip the next stitch, insert hook in the next stitch, yo and draw through all 3 loops.] repeat until to the last stitch, sc in last sc. ch 1, turn.***
Repeat rows 1 and 2 three more times for 8 rows.
So at this point, the height of the scarf is about 6 inches and one section is done
Repeat from *** to *** nine more times or the desired length of the scarf. Finish off.
Here is a video tutorial on how to make the zig-zag pattern:
