Shell Christmas Tree

Merry Christmas! I have three versions of this Christmas Tree.

Here is the first:

Here is the second version:

Here is the final version:
The pattern I wrote is based on my final version.

Material are Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in red and green and a size g crochet hook.

Note: Instructions are going to call putting a single crochet in the middle of a shell. When putting a single crochet in the middle of a shell, it is either going to be in the middle double crochet in odd numbered shells

or between double crochet's of even numbered shells

Chain 48 in first color
slip stitch with first chain to form a ring, chain 1
Row 1: single crochet (sc) in the same stitch skip 3 chains and 7 double crochet (dc) in next chain (shell made), skip 3 chains {sc in the next chain, skip 3 chains, 7 dc in the next chain, skip  3 chains} repeat around, Join in first single crochet picking up the second color
Row 2: chain 2, 7 dc in same stitch {single crochet in middle of the next shell from the previous row, 7 dc in the next single crochet} repeat {} around and sc in the middle of the last shell.
join with first shell and slip stitch to middle of shell, change to the first color on the middle stitch.
chain 1

Row 3: single crochet (sc) in the same stitch, 6 dc in next sc {sc in middle of shell, 6 dc in the next sc} repeat around, Join in first single crochet picking up the second color
Row 4: chain 2, 6 dc in same stitch {single crochet in middle of the next shell from the previous row, 6 dc in the next single crochet} repeat {} around and sc in the middle of the last shell.
join with first shell and slip stitch to middle of shell, change to the first color on the middle stitch.
chain 1

Row 5: single crochet (sc) in the same stitch, 5 dc in next sc {sc in middle of shell, 6 dc in the next sc} repeat around, Join in first single crochet picking up the second color
Row 6: chain 2, 5 dc in same stitch {single crochet in middle of the next shell from the previous row, 5 dc in the next single crochet} repeat {} around and sc in the middle of the last shell.
join with first shell and slip stitch to middle of shell, change to the first color on the middle stitch.
chain 1

Hopefully you have caught on to the pattern: Repeat rows 5-6 decreasing one dc for the shell until you do 1 dc for the shell. Then:

sc in each dc and a final row of a sc in each sc. Finish off.

My first two trees were smaller version. If you want to make smaller version, chain 36 instead. Skip 2 chains between single crochets and shells. my first tree I started out with 5 dc shell on the first two rows and my second tree I started out with a 6 dc shell on the first two rows.

I did not put a base on these trees and these do stand up on its own. I did stuff my final tree with tissue paper.
