Pinterest Challenge Group

Last month I joined the Pinterest Challenge Group on Facebook. This is going to be interesting and also challenging because it could be difficult to keep it crochet and knitting themed. It doesn't hurt, however, to try new things.

So...

Welcome to April's Pinterest Challenge! The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate us to not just pin, but to make it happen!

This month's challenge is to do an eco-friendly project.

I had several ideas going through my mind. I thought of making something with plastic bags, like this tablet case, or do another decorative bowl.  However, I decided on making a bag using scrap yarn I had to include recycling yarn from a blanket that was falling apart.

I did not follow a pattern to make this bag. As a matter of fact, I was not sure what the final project was going to look like. I thought at first it might be a a basket, but it eventually evolved into this hand bag.

I  used a special single crochet stitch to make this bag. To make this stitch you insert the hook in stitch just made and draw up a loop, insert the hook in the next stitch and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops. I made the base about 9 by 4 inches, then went around the base until it was about 9 inches tall.

I have the bag folded in on the sides.  I just thought the bag looks better this way.

The handle is just long single chain with two strands held together. Three strategic holes on each side with the long chain pulls the sides in when you close up the bag.
I have always liked doing projects that uses up my scraps.  The results are usually unique and stunning. I believe that the bag has a "Boho" look to it.   I am not sure how I will use this bag in the end. It could be a gift bag in the future. I had made gift bags the past two years for Christmas. For now I think for it is going to store one of my many projects I got going on.
