Plarn Basket

Hello! and welcome to this month's Sustainable Pinterest Challenge.  This month's project is Zero Waste. Unlike like other challenges in the previous months. I knew that I wanted to do the plarn basket months in advance. Plarn is a yarn that is made with plastic bags. Here are the baskets I have done months ago.

Here is the latest basket I have done.

Here is the pin that will inspire you to make this basket.

I hope you get a chance to check out other inspirations.

  1. I've never worked with plarn, but I love the look of your baskets.
I'd be really interested to know how you made the yarn, how many bags it takes to make a basket, what size hook you used and how big the baskets have turned out. I can kind of work out the size of the basket with the yarn in it but with the others it's hard to tell.

  2. How cool is this, Julie! Looking at the basket, I never would have thought it was made out of plastic bags! What a great way to use up those awful grocery store plastic bags - that is, if I knew how to crochet, lol! All kidding aside, it is a beautiful way to recycle and upcycle those harmful plastic bags!

  3. What?! I so need a tutorial lol. Can you buy the "yarn" already made or do you make it as you're making the basket? This is so creative. A great zero waste project. Now, I'm off to find out about this yarn lol, because I have a ton of plastic bags if I can make it myself, ha! Happy hopping!

  4. Your plarn baskets look great! I love that the plastic bags you used have color. The bags I get at my usual grocery store are all brown. Now, I want to make a plarn basket! This is such a great way to reuse bags.
