Lacy Ribbed Sock

Here are a pair of yellow socks I made for the Tour de Sox 2008 contest:
I liked how the socks turned out. So here is my pattern:
Materials:
Fingering/sock yarn
Size 2 DP needles

Cast on 60 stitches: 30 on needle one, 15 on needle 2 and 3:

Pattern Stitch:
Row 1-5: *K3, P2* Repeat around
Row 6: *yo, slip 1, K2Tog, pass over slipped stitch, yo,p2* Repeat around

*Note: For the other sock you can flip the pattern around:
Row 1-5: *P2,K3*
Row 6: *P2, yo, slip 1, K2Tog, pass over slipped stitch, yo*

Leg/ cuff:
Do pattern stitch until desire cuff length. When ready to do heel flap, turn after completing needle three.

Heal Flap (on needles 2 and 3):
Row 1: Slip 1, Purl, turn
Row 2: Slip 1, Knit 1 ,*slip 1, Knit 1* turn

Repeat these two rows until you have 28 rows completed
Heal Turn:
S1,P15,P2tog,P1, turn
S1,K4,SSK,K1,turnS1,P5,P2Tog,P1, turn
S1,K6,SSK,K1,turn
Continue in this manner until all the stitches are worked.
Note: the last two times you will not be able to P1/K1 after the decrease.
You should have 16 stitches on the needle

With an empty needle, pick up 15 stitches along heel flap (now needle 3) , continue pattern stitch along needle 1, pick up 15 stitches along other side of heal flap and knit the next 8 stitches (now needle 2), move remaining 8 stitches that are on needle 3, 23 stitches on needles 2 and 3, 30 stitches in needle 1.

Start the decrease:
Row 1: With needle 3, knit to last three stitches, K2Tog, K1.
With needle 1, continue pattern stitch.
With needle 2, K1, SSK and K until end
Row 2: Knit on needle 3, continue pattern on needle 1, Knit on needle 2

Repeat these two rows until you have 15 stitches on needles 2 and 3 (60 Total)

To continue with the foot, work the pattern stitch on needle one, and knit on needles two and three. Work until about 1 1/2 inches before desired foot length

To make the toe:

First row:starting with needle 3, k until you get to the last three stitches, k2tog and k the last stitch. On needle one k first stitch, SSK, k until the last three stitches, then k2tog, k. On need two k first stitch, SSK and k til end

Second row:Knit on all three needles
repeat row one and two until half (30) stitches remain.

Close with kitcheners stitch.

  1. Julie, Your socks are lovely! I really like the pattern. What is the advantage of flipping the pattern around - don't they both come out the same?

  2. There is a slight difference in the foot. You have purled end and there is a knitted end of the pattern, which seems to blend in with the sole of the sock. I switched the pattern to have that blended end on the opposite side.

  3. Julie: I love the yellow socks. Am in kind of a sock-rut at present but am tempted to try your pattern. Thank you for sharing! Love your blog!

  4. Thanks you for sharing your patterns! I like these yellow ones. What size did they come out in using a #2 dpn? I am gauge-challenged, and knit by size at least until I learn to gauge better. Thanks, Sjue
