Michaels Purchase - Cuddly Dropped Stitch Shawl

I had about $20 left on my Michaels gift card, from Christmas and my birthday.  So I made up a shawl using three different novelty yarns I never used before. Cuddle Fleece, Sheep(ish), and Tizzy. The shawl turned out shorter than I would have liked. I ran out of Tizzy. I should have looked at the yardage more closely, as it was half as much as the other two yarns.  So the pattern I decided is a basic dropped stitch knitted pattern and I used size 13 needles

So the pattern is:
at least 300 yards of a chunky novelty yarn
Size 13 needles

Cast on 30 stitches
Row 1: *K1, YO 2 times* repeat,  K the last stitch
Row 2: Knit the knitted stitches and drop the YO stitches.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 for the desired length. Cast off after row 2.

Dec 4, 2022: I recently did a video on how to make this scarf. I used size 3 needles in the video because the yarn was DK weight. that pattern is:

Cast on 50 stitches
Row 1: *K1, YO 2 times* repeat,  K the last stitch
Row 2: Knit the knitted stitches and drop the YO stitches.
Row 3: knit

Repeat rows 1-3 for the desired length, and cast off on row 3.

  2. The shawl looks really great Tizzy - and I love the yarns you've used :)
You couldn't tell that it's too short, either - it looks like those glamorous shawls women used to wrap around their shoulders when going out somewhere grand :)

  4. I'm terrible about checking yardage too - I just get carried away by all the colours and textures. Nice shawl and I bet it's soft as all get out!
