I have been knitting a crocheting a bunch of ornaments.
Starting out with the knitted ornaments. I know, this first one looks like a pill. I was hoping for more of a ball shape.
I was a little more successful with this one. I am not happy with the way either of them turned out. I guess I need more practice,
One to the crochet balls. I found the pattern for this ornament here.
Finally I made a couple of popcorn ornaments and I have written up a pattern.
Edit July 7, 2024:
I have edited the instructions and have a video:
Materials include a size f hook
I had used scraps of lightweight yarn.
large Styrofoam balls
Special stitch: Popcorn stitch
4 dc in a stitch indicated, remove the hook insert in the first dc and draw up the loop from the first dc, ch 1
6 sc in a ring
The project is worked in continuous rounds, so mark the first stitch in every round.
R 1: 2 sc in each sc around
R 2: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) repeat
R 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) repeat
R 4: ( 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) repeat
R 6: ( 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc) repeat
At this point, the base should not be more than 2 inches.
R 7: (sc in next 3, skip 1 stitch, ch 1) Repeat around
R 8: repeat R 7
R 9: ( sc in next 3, make popcorn in skipped sc in row 7, ) repeat
R 10: sc in next sc, skip 1, ch 1, (sc in next sc, sc on top popcorn, and next sc, skip 1, ch 1) end with sc in next 2 sc.
R 11: sc in the next sc, (skip 1, ch1, sc in the next 3 sc,) repeat, and end with sc in the last stitches of the row
R 12: sc in next sc, popcorn in skipped sc in row 10, (sc in next 3, popcorn in skipped stitch in row 10) end with 2 sc
R 13-15 Repeat rows 7-9
R 16: sc even in each stitch around
Start decrease and put in the ball and close up around it.
R 17: (Sc 2tog, sc in the next 4 sc) around
R 18: (Sc 2tog, sc in the next 3 sc) around
R 19: (Sc 2tog, sc in the next 2 sc) around
R 20: (Sc 2tog, sc in the next sc) around
R 21:: (Sc 2tog) around
Finish off the top. I weave in a tail around the front loops of the stitches a close top. I made a loop by making a chain of 15 and securing the ends at the top.
Great way to use up scrap yarn!
