I am frogging (tearing out) this project..
The top project was getting too bulky and eating up way too much yarn. It was one of those patterns I printed off the internet in the late 1990's or the early 2000's. I have attempted the pattern many times and every time I have given up and torn it out. It makes me wonder if I am missing reading the pattern.
The domino blanket is made with the domino square. It is my favorite square. I have a pattern book that show how to make a knitted version of this square. The yarn is mostly Yarn Bee baby yarn, though I do have other baby yarn mixed in. I am using a size F hook. I do not know how big it is going to get. I am working up the squares around the sides of the blanket, which means the lines in the square are not going to be symmetrical.
I made the initial square by doing a chain of 22. Single crochet in the second chain from hook and in each chain across.
Chain 1, turn
Row 1: Working in the back loops throughout, sc in the next 9, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 9. chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: sc in the next 8, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 8. chain 1 and turn.
Row 3: sc in the next 7, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 7. chain 1 and turn.
Row 4: sc in the next 6, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 6. chain 1 and turn.
Row 5: sc in the next 5, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 5. chain 1 and turn.
Row 6: sc in the next 4, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 4. chain 1 and turn.
Row 7: sc in the next 3, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 3. chain 1 and turn.
Row 8: sc in the next 2, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 2. chain 1 and turn.
Row 9: sc in the next 1, sc together the next 3 sc. sc in the next 1. chain 1 and turn.
Row 10: sc together the next 3 sc.
To add on additional squares to form a row, do 10 sc across the top of the square, chain 12, sc in the second chain from hook, and in the next 8, sc together the next chain and next 2 sc. sc in the next 9. Chain 1 and turn.
Repeat rows 2-10 like in the initial square.
When you get the height you want and start another row, ch 11, join at the base of the first square by doing 10 sc along the side of the first square. Repeat rows 1-10 like before.
Additional squares:
10 sc along the base of the square, 1 sc into the top corner of the adjacent square, which is the decrease point of the square, and 10 sc up the side of the square that is to the left of the square you are working on
Repeat rows 1-10 like before
Hope these instructions are clear enough to follow.
