Upcycled Cardigan

Hello! and welcome to this month's Sustainable Pinterest Challenge.
This month's project is to upcycle.

I have been sitting on this project for a while. I have a cardigan that had some buttons fall off and have long since been lost. Since I usually don't button it up anyway, I added crochet flowers to cover up the button holes and in place of the buttons.

Here are some pins for inspiration:

I used leftover scrap yarn to make the flowers. I didn’t have enough in one color, so I did what I could with two different colors.   I sewed the flowers on with thread. Time will tell if these flowers will stay on after a few washes.

I am excited to see other upcycled projects.

Here is the video tutorial for the simple flower.

  1. Very pretty and a fun way to upcycle an old cardigan. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't wash well and stay on. If you'd glued them on maybe not but sewing them should be fine. Do you have any more of the yarn to add a few more flowers round the bottom of the sleeve maybe? I imagine that could look really nice, or even just some lines of stitching in the same colours to pull it all together.

  6. Very creative idea and makes for a one of a kind piece. I hope it holds up during washing but if not you can always recreate it again. Enjoy it.

  8. That's as sweet as can be! I need to do this for one of my grandmother's cardigans. What a fun way to update it.

  9. That's fun! It gives new life to something you wouldn't wear otherwise. Now you've got me thinking of other ways to cover the button band on an old sweater. I have one I only wear at home. Maybe it's time to fix it up and take it out.
