Cat Toys

Hello! and welcome to this month's Sustainable Pinterest Challenge.

This month's project is to Nature.

I have to admit I had no idea what I was going to do. I finally decided to make cat toys filled with catnip we grew in our garden.

You can find the Pin I used for inspiration here. I had used everything I already had to make these cute cat toys.

Here is the pattern of how I made my mice:
Row 1: 6 sc in a magic ring, or ch 2 and 6 sc in the second chain from hook. Row 2: sc even around Row 3: *2 sc in next stitch, sc in next stitch* repeat around Row 4: sc even around Row 5: *2 sc in next stitch, sc in next 2 stitches * repeat around Row 6: make a picot (sc, ch 3, slip stitch in sc made) in the front loop in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch, picot in the front loop of the next stitch, sc in the remaining stitches. Row 7: 2 sc in the back loop of the sc that has the picot from the previous row, sc in the next stitch, sc in the back loop of the other sc that has the picot, sc in the next stitch, *2 sc in the next stitch, sc in the next 3 stitches * repeat one more time. Row 8-10: sc even around Start stuffing the toy. I also sewed in the eyes at this point. I also added some dried catnip. Row 11: *sc 2 tog, sc in the next 3 stitches * repeat around. Row 12: *sc 2 tog, sc in the next 2 stitches * repeat around. Row 13: sc 2 tog, sc in the next stitches * repeat around. Make the tail Slip stitch in the next stitch, ch 10 For straight tail: slip stitch in the second chain from the hook and in each chain. Finish off by closing up the hole For the curly tail, 3 sc in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Finish off by closing up the hole.

I made a short video about cat toys.

I look forward to checking out what others have made. I did struggle with this month. Making the cat toys was a last-minute discussion.

  3. My kitties would love these catnip filled mice! I love that you grow your own catnip. We used to grow cat grass years ago, but I know our kitties would really love some fresh catnip.

  4. Oh my gosh! This is so creative! I never really knew exactly what was in catnip (because I've never had a cat lol). Now I know it's a plant. Wow. Great way to bring nature into your project! Happy hopping!

  6. So sweet! I'm assuming you have cats! We had a cat when I was little at he LOVED anything with cat mint, we used to make toys just with a bit of cloth on a string, this is much better!

  7. That was a great way to use your catnip. Very cute! Seeing that photo of the amount of catnip in your garden bed makes me think of how cats would be in cat heaven!
