Doll Dress Pattern

I have now a pattern for this doll dress. To catch you up on the story behind this dress, I wanted to try to recreate the doll dress I saw in the toy museum  in Branson, MO. My first version on the dress is found here and my second version is found here.

I have two ties on the the dress, that could be in the front or the back

Dress with ties in the back

This dress I used the same yarn I used in my second version of the  dress, the acrylic yarn I got from Hobbii. I said I was going to use the Baby Bee yarn from Hobby Lobby. I think it would a great yarn to use, especially if this is going on an actual newborn baby.  So time to move on to the pattern.

Size E hook:
chain 50
Row 1: sc in second chain from hook and in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
Row 2: sc in first sc, *chain 2, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc* repeat across, chain 3, turn
Row 3: *2 dc, ch 2, 2dc* in each chain 2 space, dc in the last sc, chain 3, turn
NOTE: from now on *2 dc, ch 2, 2dc* will be referred to as a shell.
Row 4: * Shell in chain 2 space, skip one dc and dc BETWEEN the next 2 dc (1 dc between shells)* repeat across and end with shell in the last chain 2 space, dc in the turning chain, chain 3, turn
Row 5: * Shell in chain 2 space, [skip one dc and dc BETWEEN the next 2 dc] repeat bracket once (2 dc between shells)*repeat across and end with shell in the last chain 2 space, dc in the turning chain, chain 3, turn
Creating the sleeve holes
Row 6: * Shell in chain 2 space, [skip one dc and dc BETWEEN the next 2 dc] repeat bracket twice (3 dc between shells)* repeat once more, skip 4 shells (sleeve hole created) *Shell in chain 2 space, [skip one dc and dc BETWEEN the next 2 dc] repeat bracket twice* repeat 2 more times, shell in next shell (chain 2 space), skip 4 shells, dc BETWEEN last dc of 4th skipped shell and the next dc, *dc BETWEEN the next 2 dc* twice, Shell in chain 2 space, [skip one dc and dc BETWEEN the next 2 dc] repeat bracket twice, end with shell in the last chain 2 space, dc in the turning chain, chain 3, turn

Row 7-9: Shell in chain 2 shell space, dc in the the dc's BUT NOT in the shell dc's (the 3 dc's between the shells), dc in the turning chain, chain 3, turn
Creating the skirt
Row 10: * Shell in chain 2 space, [skip one dc and dc BETWEEN the next 2 dc] repeat bracket 3 times (4 dc between shells) *repeat across and end with shell in the last chain 2 space, dc in the turning chain, chain 3, turn

Row 11+: Repeat row 10 increasing 1 dc between the shells until you have the desired skirt length, I stopped at 10 dc between the shells. When you are ready to to the border, don't turn, change to contrasting color if you like.

Border: sc evenly up the side of the dress, increase (2 or 3 sc) at the corner at the top and sc along the top, increase at the other corner and sc evenly along the other side, increase at the corner, *sc in the next 2 dc of the shell picot in the chain 2 space (sc, ch 3, slip stitch in sc just made, sc in the next 2 dc of the shell, sc between the dc's like before* repeat along the bottom of the skirt, sc in the corner and join with the first sc. finish off.

Sleeves:

Joining at the bottom of sleeve hole make 2 sc, this will help not have a big hole in the bottom of the sleeve. Shell in the shells, dc in the 2 dc between the the shells (Don't dc in the shell dc's), join with first sc.

chain 3, Shell in the shells, dc in the 2 dc between the the shells (Don't dc in the shell dc's), join at top of sc. Repeat this row 2 more times, if you want longer sleeves, then keep repeating this row until desired length. For the edging, with contrasting color, sc in every stitch and picot in the chain 2 spaces (like in the skirt) and finish off.

Just a note with one sleeve will start off with shell on one sleeve and the other sleeve you are going to start with the 2 dc before the shell.

The Ties (make 2)

Make a chain of about 100.

Weave one tie in the chain 2 spaces at the top (row 2) and the other one around the waist (row 8)
