Giant Heart

So here is my giant red heart made with Red Heart yarn...I think I made a pun.
Oh well, it is late and I got it finished before valentines day was over.

Giant Red Heart Pattern:
Worst Weight yarn I used one skein of Red Heart
size G hook

Row 1: ch 5, dc in 4th chain from hook, dc in last ch
Row 2: ch3, dc in first dc (an increase) dc in next dc, 2 dc in turning chain 3.
Row 3: ch 3, dc in every dc and 2 dc in turning chain 3. repeat this row until you have 63 dc, that includes the chain 3 turning chain.

The tops of the heart:

Row 1: ch 2 (note: does NOT count as a dc), dc 2tog, dc in the next 27 dc, dc 2 tog. leave the remaining 32 dc unworked

Row 2: ch2, dc2tog, dc until the last 2  stitches, dc2tog.
Row 3: ch 2, dc even across
Row 4-5: repeat row 2
Row 6: repeat row 3
Row 7-8: repeat row 2
Row 9: repeat row 3
Row 10-11: repeat row 2
Row 12: dc 3tog, dc until the last 3 stitches, dc3tog, break off.

Do the other side over the unworked dc from before.
Row 1: Skip the first missed dc, join with next dc. dc2tog with the dc you just joined and the next dc,dc in the next 27 dc, dc 2 tog.

Row2-12: do the same as the before. Finish off.

There you have it, if you want, you can do an edging around the heart. I did my favorite edging and you can find it here.

I know it is poor planning on my part to post a heart pattern on February 15th, but you can file it away in time for next year. My parents have a 50th wedding anniversary, maybe I will make a gold one for them.
