This project came about because I wanted to make a corner-to-corner tutorial on my channel. I was going to do a simple square or rectangle to show how to do corner-to-corner. I decided to do a cowl and join the two ends as I decrease. this was a new technique for me and I am glad it worked out. Overall, this is still a basic corner-to-corner tutorial, You can adapt this pattern to make a simple blanket or scarf.
So let's get on with the pattern and the video tutorial.
Size 4 worsted weight yarn, size H hook. You are welcome to vary the hook and yarn
scissors and a yarn needle.
Increasing:
Row 1: ch 6, dc in 4th chain from hook and the remaining two chains.
dc in 4th chain from the hook and the remaining two chains. Looking at the dc group that is to the left, slip stitch into the dc closest to the ch 3 space. ch 3, 3 dc in the chain 3 space.
Row 2: chain 6, turn so that chain 6 is along the bottom and that the dc group ( consists of 3 dcs and a ch 3 space) is to the left side.
dc in 4th chain from the hook and the remaining two chains. Looking at the dc group that is to the left, slip stitch into the dc closest to the ch 3 space. ch 3, 3 dc in the chain 3 space.
Row 3: chain 6, turn so that chain 6 is along the bottom and that the dc groups are to the left side. dc in 4th chain from the hook and the remaining two chains. [Looking at the dc group that is to the left, slip stitch into the dc closest to the ch 3 space. ch 3, 3 dc in the chain 3 space.] repeat until you have gone through all of the dc groups.
Repeat row 3 until you have the cowl height or project you need. I had 9 dc groups.
Decreasing one side and increasing the other side.

Row 2: turn, slip stitch in 3 dc's of the dc group just made, ch 3, 3 dc in the chain 3 space. [Looking at the dc group that is to the left, slip stitch into the dc closest to the ch 3 space. ch 3, 3 dc in the chain 3 space.] repeat until you have gone through all of the dc groups
Repeat rows 1-2 until you have the desired length of your cowl or project.
Decreasing and not joining (for blankets and scarves)
Row 1: turn, slip stitch in 3 dc's of the dc group just made, ch 3, 3 dc in the chain 3 space. Repeat row 1 until the other corner is formed. Finish off
Decreasing and joining to form the cowl.
End with row 2 under "Decreasing one side and increasing the other side."
Ch 3, slip stitch into the beginning corner of the cowl, ch 3, slip stitch between the next two dc groups at the beginning of the cowl, dc in each stitch of the first chain 3. [Looking at the dc group that is to the left, slip stitch into the dc closest to the ch 3 space. ch 3, 3 dc in the chain 3 space.] repeat until you have reached the same height as the last dc group. slip stitch into the dc closest to the ch 3 space.

Row 2 (joining row): turn, slip stitch in 3 dc's of the dc group just made, slip stitch between the next two dc groups at the beginning of the cowl, ch 3, slip stitch between the next two dc groups at the beginning of the cowl, 3 dc in the chain 3 space. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the other side is joined and the other corner is formed. Finish off
