We are in a new month, so it is time for another Sustainable Craft Challenge. The theme for this month is Love. What represents love more than hearts. As almost always, I have a plan A in mind, then there was a plan B, but in this case, I went with plan C. I present to you my simple crochet heart garland. I just used what I had in my stash to make this. I have to say, I love how the heart garland turned out. I would also think that this would make a good beginner project. FYI, the paper heart on the tree was plan B. I have a heart cookie cutter and I made pulp by adding newspaper in a blender with water. I squeezed out the excess water and formed the pulp into the cookie cutter. The white heart was made with toilet paper a few years ago. The hearts made with newsprint looked dingy.
Here is my pattern for the garland, hook size and type of yarn does not matter.
Row 1: sc in the second chain from the hook. Sc in the last chain. Turn
Row 2: 2 sc in each sc
Row 3: 2 sc in the first stitch, sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the last sc
Row 4: sc until last sc, 2 sc in last sc
Row 5: 2 sc in the first sc, sc to last stitch, sc2tog
Row 6: sc2tog in the first stitch, sc to the last stitch, 2 sc in the last stitch.
Row 7: repeat row 6
Row 8: repeat row 5
Row 9: sc2tog, sc until the end
Row 10: sc2tog in the first stitch, sc in the next 2, sc2tog in the last stitch
Row 11: sc2tog in the next two stitches
Ch 3, repeat rows 1-11 until you have the desired length. There you have your heart garland
Here is the video on how I made the heart garland.

ReplyDeleteSuch a cute garland Julie, I'm going to give this pattern a try.
ReplyDeleteYou must let us see plan A (or was it B?) properly sometime, the newspaper heart. Even if it turned out a bit dingy next to another one for your tree it might be just the aesthetic someone else is looking for, you never know!! Could it be painted I wonder? Would that be a way to save it?
This is such a cute project. Thank you for the pattern for these crochet hearts.
