Offset Granny Square Blanket with Video

I have come across the granny square blog post from May 2019 and I knew I have to make a tutorial for this blanket. This blanket can be as big as you want it to be. Mine is not big. You could make the initial granny square bigger or smaller, or add as many rows along the two sides to make the blanket the size you want it. You could make little offset granny squares and join those squares to make a blanket.

Materials:

Worsted Weight Yarn - size 4

Size I hook

scissors and yarn needle

Make a magic ring or chain 4 and slip stitch to make a ring.

Make the granny square.

Row 1: in the ring, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, *3 dc, ch 2* 3 times, join on top of the beginning ch 3. If changing colors, finish off

Row 2: If you are not changing colors, slip stitch into the ch 2 space. Otherwise, join the new color in a ch 2 space with a slip stitch. ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space, ch 1, *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1* repeat 2 more times, join with the top of ch 3. If changing colors, finish off

Row 3: If you are not changing colors, slip stitch into the ch 2 space. Otherwise, join the new color in a ch 2 space with a slip stitch. ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space, ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space, ch 1, *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the corner ch 2 space, ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 sp,* repeat 2 more times, join with the top of ch 3. If changing colors, finish off

Working on the 2 sides:

Row 1: If you are not changing colors, slip stitch into the ch 2 space. Otherwise, join the new color in a ch 2 space with a slip stitch. ch 3, 3 dc in the same ch 2 space, *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space* repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach a ch 2 corner, ch 1, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the corner ch 2 space,*ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space* repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach ch 2 space at the end of the row. 4 dc in that space at the end of the row. TURN

Row 2: ch 4,  3 dc in the next ch 1 space, *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space* repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach a ch 2 corner, ch 1 [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the corner ch 2 space,] *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space* repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach the 4 dc cluster at the end of the row, ch 1, dc on top of ch 3. Turn:

Row 3: ch 3, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space, *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space* repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach a ch 2 corner, ch 1 [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the corner ch 2 space,] *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space* repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach ch 1 space at the end of the row. 3 dc in that space and dc on top of the turning chain.  TURN

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have the desired blanket size ending with row 2. Turn and slip-stitch into the ch 1 space.

Granny Square Border:

Row 1: ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space, *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space*, repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach a ch 2 corner, ch 1, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the corner ch 2 space. *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space*, repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach a ch 4 turning chain from the beginning of the last row, ch 1, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in that space, now working along the other two sides, *ch 1, 3 dc around the dc's or in between the 3 dc groups* repeat until you reach the next corner, keep in mind you are going to reach the original granny square and are doing the 3 dc's in the ch 1 spaces of that granny square.  ch 1, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the corner ch 2 space *ch 1, 3 dc around the dc's or in between the 3 dc groups* repeat until you reach the end of the row, join with the ch 3.

Rows 2-3: slip stitch into the ch 2 space, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space, *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space*, repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach a ch 2 corner, {ch 1, [3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the corner ch 2 space. *ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch 1 space*, repeat for each ch 1 space until you reach the corner} Repeat 2 more times joining with the turning chain.

Final row, I did the crab stitch (how I did this is in the video) or you could just do a single crochet stitch in every stitch. Finish off ends.
