A Crochet Shawl and Scarf Pattern

I had come across an old blog post from 2013, and it was a shawl I had done. I had roughly written down a pattern, but now I have a similar pattern and video.

This is a pattern stitch that can be done to any length you want, as long as you start out with an odd number of single crochets in your foundation row. This stitch features "windows" by having a triple crochet formed over multiple rows and ridged rows between the "windowed" rows. Changing colors every couple of rows can enhance to look of your window. What yarn you use, and hook size really doesn't matter. I have done this project with worsted weight, or size 4 yarn and a size I hook. This project should be easy enough for beginners.

So here is the basic pattern:

Chain an even number

Row 1: sc in the second chain from hook and in each chain across.

Row 2: chain 1, sc in the back loops across.

Row 3-4: repeat row 2

Row 5: chain 1, *sc in the back loops, tr in free loop 3 rows below* repeat until last sc, sc in the back loops.

Repeat row 2 four times, then do row 5.
