Small Shell Hat

Here is the latest in my small shell patterns. I now have a stocking hat. This pattern will also have a video tutorial.

Here is the pattern:

Materials

size 4 yarn

size J hook

3 stitch markers

scissors

yarn needle

Special stitch:

small shell = 3 sc in stitch

Make a magic ring or chain 4 to make a ring. 6 sc in the ring.

Working in continuous rounds

Row 1: 2 sc in every stitch

Row 2: *small shell in the first stitch, skip the next stitch* repeat around

Using the stitch markers

Row 3: small shell in the next, put a stitch marker in the first sc of the small shell, skip the next sc, small shell in the next stitch, skip the next sc, small shell in the next sc, put a stitch marker in the first sc of the small shell, skip the next sc, small shell in the next stitch, skip the next sc, small shell in the next sc, put a stitch marker in the first sc of the small shell, skip the next sc, small shell in the next stitch, skip the next sc. The three stitch marker mark where the increases are going to go

Row 4: *small shell in the marked stitch, put a stitch marker in the first sc of the small shell, skip the next sc, small shell in the next stitch, skip the next sc, small shell in the next sc, skip 2 sc, small shell in the next sc, skip one sc* repeat around

Row 5: *small shell in the marked stitch, put a stitch marker in the first sc of the small shell, skip the next sc, small shell in the next stitch, skip the next sc, small shell in the next sc, [skip 2 sc, small shell in the next sc] repeat until you are one sc before a marker, skip that sc* repeat around

Repeat row 5 until the top of the hat measure about 6 inches across or the desired width. My hat has 27 small shells

After you are done increasing, you just need one stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round: *small shell in the next stitch, skip the next 2 sc* around. repeat this round until you have the desired length. slip stitch in the next stitch and finish off
